Farm livin’ is the life for… us.

This week in Social Studies we learned about life on a farm.  The best way to learn about life on a farm is to head out to farm land.  We drove to Mt. Vernon and Bow to visit Schuh Farms and Golden Glenn Creamery.  Since it is the off season, tours were not available.  So we bought some milk and cheese at the creamery (another good lesson- buy local!).  At Schuh Farms (which I didn’t realize, closes for the winter months) they were so kind and let us go back and pet at their animals (I didn’t even know they had animals) they even offered fresh eggs to us.  It is always such a treat to visit their farm.

A lot of the farms we normally visit up there were closed, but even just driving through the farmlands, we saw so much- tractors, barns, people working, and many animals.  The boys didn’t seem to notice that there is much more we could have done.  And, it’s not like this is something they have never see before.  It was a fun, relaxing morning and we all got some yummy chocolate milk out of it.  We also made some refrigerator pickles last night.

We had the added bonus of a VERY sunny, beautiful day in the PNW.  So, we took full advantage and picked up some food at the Chowderhouse in Anacortes and took it to their local park.  The boys spent the afternoon playing and made some friends while we were there.  It was an awesome day!

Another great week… and again, we accomplished our goals.  We switched a few things around as we went, but that is one more thing I love about homeschooling- the flexibility.

It is time to have some breakfast and start our lessons- I am also tired of typing.  I’ve been working on my Washington State Learning Plan that has to be turned in to the district (which is basically copying and pasting a bunch of bureaucratic terms, it gave me a headache- an actual headache).
