This was an over-all good week. It was very cold and rained the first half of the week. The last two days have been nice enough to venture out and play in the puddles and mud. And, after a few days of rain- we NEED to be outside again. Not just out of the house, but outside enjoying crisp, clean air. The bikes came out, swings were swung, trees were climbed, and “forests” were explored. We have some outdoor outings planned for next week, I’m hoping the weather is kind to us.
There were a couple of times this week when Chase pulled an attitude during his lessons. We worked through it (it wasn’t pretty, but I stood firm) and he turned things around and completed his assignments. It would be lovely if he had an “after school special” moment- and learned a valuable lesson. I won’t get my hopes up. I learned a lesson from the situation. In one instance, I felt I handled things very well- I felt good with the outcome. And the other time, it was not pretty. I was frustrated and instead of taking the break from the moment- I gave in to the argument. We did finally stop and work things out. Then we made some play dough and finished our lessons. I should have used a more effective approach- hopefully next time. I know we will have these days and I need to remember “this too shall pass”. Close my eyes and say it again. Sigh…
We did do some fun projects this week and I’m so excited for next week. We start Geography and we get into some really fun Science-y stuff. I can’t wait. We are also going to take a different approach to Language Arts. I’m hoping to make it more exploratory and creative for Chase. He’s so passionate with his comic books right now. He makes almost 10 a week. I’d like to help mold his comic book skills- maybe create one together. I’m hoping that he doesn’t catch on to the fact that I’m trying to teach him something too. Fingers crossed- he’s a tough one to dupe. I figure if I keep saying booger, fart, and wedgie- that will create a good diversion.
