This is a lovely book. I enjoyed it as much as Chase did. We both walked away with something different, but both of us cared very much about Ivan. We even did a little research online to find out more about his real life. A sad little tale, with a happy ending. It turns this is a local story, we will definitely be making the drive to Tacoma to see where this all took place.
Update- we made it! We came, we saw, we were mildly impressed, we left and went to Great Wolf Lodge. This place is huge, it’s an indoor market, and possibly a maze. We were not able to see where Ivan was kept (due to lack of time) but we did see a wall with old news paper articles displayed, telling the history of the building. Apparently, there is a monument somewhere n this building dedicated to the animals that were here, but none was very clear on where it was located. I really wanted to see more, I wanted to see where the animals were kept, but it just wasn’t in the cards this day- maybe next time.
